On April 30 to May 3, Mr. Schrade and Watty, the two professors from the Ulm University of Applied Science paid a 4-day’s academic visit to HUAT.
On April 30, the two professors interviewed with the candidates who intend to go to the Ulm University of Applied Science this September for double degrees. The candidates have taken an academic test both in written and oral form and five of them passed the test. After the interview, the two professors also introduced to the first and second-year students the situations of scientific research and international exchange of their university.
On May 2, accompanied by Ma Xun, the director of international cooperation and exchange office, the two professors visited some laboratories in the College of Mechanical Engineering and College of Automotive Engineering. Vice president Luo Yongge, Wang Baohua, dean of College of Automotive Engineering had a talk with them in the conference room in the College of Automotive Engineering.
On behalf of HUAT, vice president Luo Yongge expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the two professors. He said there had been more than 20 years since the cooperation between the universities. Ulm University of Applied Science was the one with which HUAT had the longest time, richest varieties and achieved most in cooperation. Both parties shared similar ideas about running a university, equally paid attention to the combination of theories and practice, and the researches were also centered on applied science. Because of so many similarities, the cooperation in the field of transfer of credits, visiting scholars, student exchange and research also strengthened emotional bond and friendship between the two parties. Luo Yongge also gave a brief introduction of academic programs, students’ innovation activities, research fields and achievements. As a conclusion of his talk, Luo Yongge hope that the two professors would take more care of the students of HUAT in Ulm and provide more help and guidance for the young teachers who would study at Ulm.
Professor Schrade and Watty expressed their thanks for the kind invitation and gracious hospitality. They said the campus, the achievements in research and student’s achievements in competitions had left them deep impression. They also said, for the students studying in Ulm, they would try their best to provide help and guidance. And then, both parties discussed in detail the plan that young teachers would go to study in Germany and reached an agreement.
On the afternoon of May 2, the two professors gave wonderful lectures entitled “hybrid electric vehicle” and “Basics of methodological product development and design” for the students in the program of “Excellent Engineers”, teachers and students interested in the field. On May 3, they spent the whole day to give Theory of Machines and Mechanisms and Transmission Design seminar and discussing teaching plans, training programs and other related academic affairs in the College of Mechanical Engineering and College of Automotive Engineering, and exchanging opinions with professors and teachers in these colleges.
