As one of the largest academic research centers in Shiyan City, the library of HUAT is an indispensable part of the study, teaching, and research work there, offering a full spectrum of resources, from rare books and journals to a rapidly expanding network of digital materials, etc. Adhering to the principle of "Do everything for the readers”, the faculties are actually trying hard to meet the increasing demands of readers, serving the readers in an active, modern and scientific way.
In September 2013, the current library of HUAT was put into use.Through the years, the total collection of publications reaches to over 1 million volumes, together with abundant electronic resources. The total area covers about 16,000 square meters with more than 2,000 seats available. Its main branches include borrowing/ renewing counter, room for electronic reading and room for consultancy, etc.
It opens from Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, which can provide services like borrowing, retrieve, inter-library borrowing, online document delivery, consultancy, training for the readers, etc. Adhering to the principle of “Reader First”, the library staff put the needs of readers into first place. To meet serve the readers, its opening time lasts to 98 hours per week, and readers can have easy access to its digital resources 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The library’s service has been highly praised by both the students and China’s mainstream media. And to encourage the students to read, the library has organized a variety of annual reading activities. Data shows that there are more than one million readers visiting the library throughout the year.
It also provides access to various digital database, including CNKI, Wanfang Database, Superstar E-book Library, Duxiu Database, OFB, etc. At same time, it has also built various specialized databases. For example, Database for Clean Energy Vehicle Research, Database for Wudang Culture Research, etc.
At present, the Library has established an automatic service system and provide its readers with full access to WIFI. With the help of self-help borrowing and returning equipment, self-help copy and printing machine, the readers can have a free access to all the resources in the library. It is also the first library in the nearby regions to have RFID electronic labelling management system.In order to better serve the readers our school library is striving to be smart the intelligent. The library attaches great importance to the co-construction and sharing of resources. It is a member of CALIS (China Academic Library & Information System), a co-construction unit of Hubei Science and Technology Information Sharing Service Platform, and a member of Hubei University Intellectual Property Information Service Alliance. It has established a resource sharing relationship with domestic university libraries and national libraries.
