News from this website (Article by Cao Zhenzhu)On the afternoon of June 27th, Cai Liuyi and Fu Yawei, volunteers of our university’s Confucius Institute and 2024 graduates from the School of Foreign Studies and Trade, returned to the university. They shared their work experience in Ghana with our teachers and students, discussing how to build a friendly communication bridge between China and Chana through language and culture as media.

As the first batch of Chinese language teacher volunteers at our university’s Confucius Institute, the two served as "living business cards" for China-Ghana cultural exchanges during their one-year work in Ghana.In the sharing session, they talked about their daily work from the perspective of first-hand experiencers. Cai Liuyi integrated traditional cultural experiences such as Bagua Boxing, calligraphy and Chinese painting into her Chinese classes. When Ghanaian students wrote "你好" with a writing brush and cut out the character "福" with scissors, the surprise in their eyes made her feel the power of cultural exchange.Fu Yawei, on the other hand, designed teaching activities based on local students’ interests. For example, she explained Chinese grammar through popular music lyrics to stimulate their enthusiasm for learning.Thanks to their efforts, the classes they taught achieved excellent results in the YCT examination and one student won the championship of the "Chinese Bridge" competition in Ghana.

During the interactive session, students raised questions about cross-cultural communication misunderstandings and the role of foreign language learning in cultural dissemination. Taking resolving "prejudices against Chinese cuisine" as an example, Yawei Fu emphasized eliminating stereotypes through patient listening and sincere expression.
Zhang Qian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Studies and Trade, summarized and pointed out that the sharing session is not only a transfer of experience, but also an inheritance of the "cultural mission". She called on students to take volunteers as examples, integrate professional learning with cultural dissemination tell Chinese stories in foreign languages and serve as "youth bridges" for China-Canada friendly exchanges.
