From August 11th to 20th, our university selected 5 international students to participate in the short-term language and culture training course at North China University of Technology. The project is a blended learning and includes comprehensive courses and field training, complemented by a variety of cultural training courses that introduce Chinese history and culture.
During the 10-day training course, international students participate in comprehensive Chinese language courses and oral lessons every day, Chinese teachers conducted heuristic teaching based on students’ language foundation and practical activities, and held rich cultural activities. International students learned the history and classification of tea on the tea ceremony course, and tried the tea ceremony wearing the Han dynasty costumes, experienced the Chinese etiquette contained in it. The paper-cutting class impressed the international students, learning to cut"traditional Chinese character‘xi’, snowflake", and use the wax board to make symmetrical paper cut, students showed their paper-cutting works one after another. The teacher of the traditional Chinese painting class sketched a piece of work and taught the students to draw Chinese painting on the paper fans, which is an ingenious combination of ink art and painting art. The first experience of this type of course let students not only make progress in language, but also further appreciate China’s long-standing traditional culture.
Equally impressive to international students are Shougang Park and Mutianyu Great Wall. Shougang Park witnessed the glorious history of Beijing’s industry once, students learned that the “Three Blast Furnaces” project is located in the northern part of Shougang Park and is the first modern large-scale blast furnace with a volume exceeding 2500 cubic meters. It embodies the industrial memory of Beijing, known as the “Meritorious Blast Furnace”. They repeatedly marveled at the uniqueness of Shougang Park’s industrial architecture and construction standards.
“The Mutianyu Great Wall is my most memorable place, it is truly a great project.” Moroccan students expressed their most genuine feelings, continued to understand the Chinese historical stories contained in the architecture of the Great Wall as they measured every inch of the wall with their footsteps.
Love will remain, despite separation of great distances, even if by only water. South-North Water Diversion Project has connected Shiyan and Beijing. This language and cultural training activity has further deepened the friendship between North China University of Technology and our school. The combination of language learning and cultural practice is full of characteristics. Our international students not only feel the charm of the Chinese language, but also feel the rich Chinese history and culture, which is a precious experience of studying in China.
