The School of International Education organized the "Tell Chinese Stories Well" Chinese Competition on December 12th in a bid to enhance the Chinese language proficiency and linguistic expression skills of international students at our university. The competition aimed to present vivid Chinese stories from the perspective of international students, showcasing a comprehensive and authentic portrayal of China. The event attracted participation from 130 individuals including all the students and faculty of the International Education School, foreign instructors, and students from the School of Foreign Languages.
Students were given the freedom to choose their topics and form teams.Delightful Chinese stories can be narrated under eight categories, invovling Chinese clothing, traditional Chinese festivals, Chinese cities, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chinese Zodiac, Chinese martial arts, Chinese culinary flavours and Chinese tea culture. Throughout the competition, participants are allowed to exclusively use Chinese as the only language. Then, the following group presentations, Hanfu shows, tea ceremonies, New-Year song singing, gesture dance, poetry recitation, among others, significantly witnessed students’chrismas and their in-depth understanding of Chinese culture, which also offered a captivating audio-visual feast for the audience.
The Chinese Zodiac team, representing Chinese zodiac, and the Tiger of HUAT team, representing Chinese cities,emerged as winners,securing the prestigious first prize after competitiion.The Prosperity team, showcasing the Belt and Road Initiative and the Knockout team,showcasing first-tier cities earning the second prize. Additionally, other participating teams also achieved outstanding results. Zhu Zhanwei, Dean of the School of International Education, presented the awards to representatives of these victorious teams.
In his speech, Dean Zhu highlighted that this competition provided a valuable opportunity to assess the students' Chinese proficiency and talent, thereby facilitating their language acquisition and deeper understanding of Chinese culture. He encouraged international students to serve as cultural ambassadors, spreading the richness of Chinese culture worldwide. To convey his well wishes to all international students, he used the competition's motto "today is good, tomorrow will be better, then every day will be better and better."
Chinese language serve as a thread, intimately connecting international students with China. Culture acts as a sturdy bridge, resonating hearts both Chinese and foreign individuals, enriching our inner worlds. Amity between the people holds the key to sound state-to-state relations., which stems from hearts connection. As a medium for dialogue between Chinese civilization and the global community, we,new youth,should fully exert our brilliant to do great contributions. Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations. Let our vibrant youthfulness build an endless panorama, collectively construct a shared "moments" within the global community of civilizations!
