In order to expand students’ international vision, appreciate diversified cultures, and improve students’ interest in learning spoken English, Shiyan Dongfeng 20 Primary School organized an English exchange activity on December 14. The activity focus on “Happy English Happy life”, inventing four foreign teachers from HUAT to communicate with the students in spoken English and answer their questions.

Jenny, an enthusiastic foreign teacher, encouraged and guided the students to practice spoken English which can be used in real-life situation, and happily interpreted the picture book story “Five little monkeys”. Her praises and encouragements, such as “Excellent”, “Wonderful”, “Thank you”, further stimulated students’ interest and build up their confidence in learning English. Afterwards, three international students engaged the children in English games, which not only helping the primary students consolidate the English vocabulary they learned in class and enhancing their English capacity to express. They also felt the efforts and positively optimistic learning attitude of the Chinese primary students.

At the end of the activity, Chen Yunxuan，a student from Dongfeng 20 Primary School presented the foreign teachers and students with a New Year Yinglian representing the school's characteristics, expressing them good wishes on behalf of all members in their school, “Red plums bless for new year, overflowing jubilance celebrates for good fortune”. The foreign teachers and students of HUAT showed their deep appreciation about it and extolled the culture of Yinglian in their school.

This activity opened a window for mutual exchange between Chinese and international students, provided new ideas for English teachers in Dongfeng 20 primary school to improve their teaching quality. Simultaneously, it also provided an opportunity for foreign teachers and students of HUAT to understand the training mode of primary school education in Shiyan city.
