The delegation from Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT), led by the vice-president Luo Yong-ge, was invited to the United States and Canada from November 9th to 18th, 2012 to pay a ten-day official visit to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Kettering University, Wayne State University, Detroit University of America and Canadian Toronto University, Ontario Polytechnic University of Canada.
On the morning of Nov 12th, members of the delegation came to the Carbondale campus of United States Southern Illinois University (SIUC). They were welcomed by John J. Warwick, dean of School of Engineering; Andy Ju An Wang, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences; Michael B. Behamann, head of the automotive technology center; Yi Lee, principal of International Cooperation Office. Mr. Luo introduced the history of HUAT, the state of teaching, scientific research as well as international cooperation. The two sides exchanged their preliminary views on joint online degree programs, dual-degree programs, teachers and students’ exchange program and so on. Accompanied by Michael and Yi, the delegation visited the campus, automotive lab, traffic education center and School of Arts. A memorandum of cooperation was signed with the School of Engineering and School of Applied Science and Art.
On Nov 13th, the delegation visited Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. As early as in 2010, HUAT had implemented cooperation with RHIT. The delegation was welcomed by Robert Coons, (deputy vice-principal, professor), Phil Cornwell (academic vice-principal, professor) as well as other principals from different departments. Members of the delegation visited the campus, libraries and laboratories, etc. On behalf of HUAT, Mr Luo signed a memorandum of cooperation in terms of research and teaching, faculty and students’ exchange, etc. Mr. Luo invited Mr. Robert Coons to visit HUAT at an appropriate time next year and he accepted the invitation with pleasure. The two sides confirmed that HUAT would send teachers to RHIT in next January and RHIT would send professors for short period courses teaching in next July.
