October 19th, 2012 witnessed the extraordinary achievement for Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT). "HUAT-1” F1 racing car, self design and self- made, won the champion of "Kunlun Lubricant Cup”, the Third Students Formula China "(FSC) with the total scores of 759.82. The contest was held in Shanghai International Circuit. The winner HUAT was the most surprising dark horse in this contest.
More than 41 domestic teams as well as 3 oversea teams attended this competition, including teams from Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and German
Munich team, Stuttgart team, Austrian champion team, etc. “ HUAT 1” had beaten all the rivals. The awards it obtained include 1st prize for cost and manufacturing analysis, 1st prize for high-speed obstacle avoidance, 2nd prize for 75 m linear acceleration, etc. Among the 8 items, “HUAT 1” has won 7 ones. The total award reached up to 150,000RMB. HUAT will represent China to participate in 2013 international competitions held in Germany.
In March 2012, exclusively sponsored by DF Commercial Vehicle Company, 32 undergraduates, under the guidance of their instructors, of FSAE "HUAT1 "carried on a series of works including graphic design, material selection, frame design, engine debugging, body design, etc. The whole project lasted for six months and cost100,000 RMB .The purely handmade “HUAT1”is 2.924 meters long, 1.488 meters wide, and 1.113 meters tall , with total weight of 240 kg, and oil emission 600CC. It adopted the rear-wheel drive system, with manual clutch and six manual transmission gears, which can accelerate to 100kph (62mph) within just 4 seconds and reach a top speed up to 180kph.
