From June 17th to 18, Professor Keryn Lian from University of Toronto in Canada visited HUAT for academic exchange. Accompanied by dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering Zeng Daxin, and vice dean Luo Cheng, Professor Lian visited labs of the College and then had a meeting with teachers and students there.
At the meeting, Professor Lian first gave an affirmative comment on the good teaching conditions and the distinctive characteristics of engineering education of the College and then introduced the participants in detail the programs, teaching plans, the implementation and the main research fields of the School of materials science and engineering in the University of Toronto. Professor Lian said that the University of Toronto pays attention to the cultivation of talents with different kinds of professional knowledge and skills and points out that the environment of open teaching, scientific research, excellent teachers, rigorous attitude and other factors contribute to the prominent international position of University of Toronto.
During the two days’ visit, Professor Lian also delivered a lecture entitled "Towards Large Area Printable and Flexible Electronics and Energy Storage Systems". In the lecture, she explained complicated theories in simple language, which attracted all the listeners.
After the lecture, Professor Lian answered all the questions asked by some students. From her own scientific research and teaching experience overseas for many years she said that university students should be flexible learning, good at thinking, and look at things with a holistic view. Students yourselves matter most in learning. When you really feel pressured you will be conscious to gallop. She reminded everyone not only to learn deep, but also to see wide.
