Invited by International Cooperation and Exchange Office (ICEO), Dr. Yang Fei, the director of center of Asia, Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW),USa, visited HUAT on March 31.
Vice president Luo Yonge met with Dr. Yang Fei and asked in detail about the disciplinary advantages of CUW and its cooperation programs in Asia and China. In responsible to Mr. Lou’s question, Dr. Yang said the promoted “3+1”bachelor’s degree program by CUW is the only one program practiced among universities of USA at the moment, which includes 3 years of study at home university and 1 year of study at CUW. Students in the program can get two Bachelor’s degrees both from their home university and CUW after graduation. The program started at the end of last year and many universities in China showed interest in it.
Later in the morning, Dr. Yang Lijun, the dean of school of economy and management, Ms. Yao Liping, the vice dean and other program directors hold a detailed discussion about the possibility to carry out the program. When it came to the fact that students might have problem with minimum requirements of English proficiency test, Dr. Yang Fei made a proposal that CUW could send teachers to teach some courses at HUAT and students could also attend English training courses at CUW if their academic performance was good enough. The proposal was thought practical by all the program directors. Dr. Yang Lijun said they would try all their effort to support the program and select one or two students to join the program this fall as the first step so that large-scale and further cooperation could go smoothly in the future.
In the afternoon, Dr.Yang Fei gave a lecture in the title of “American Culture and Its Educational System”and had interaction with students interested in the program.
Dr. Yang Fei visit to HUAT ended with the agreement of “3+1”signed by representative of CUW and Prof. Ma Xun, the director ICEO, HUAT.
