On the morning of May 27th, the famous expert in mechanical engineering, Mr. Yang Shuz, also Member of National Academy of Sciences of China and former president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (previously called Huazhong University of Polytech) presented in his eighties at “Dongfeng Forum” a report entitled “the position, current situation and developing trend of mechanical manufacturing”. More than 400 faculty members and students attended the lecture.
The report with “a disciplines outline of mechanical manufacturing” as its sub-title, started with the report delivered at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party on Nov. 8, 2012 and the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, was divided into several parts including a brief introduction of mechanical manufacturing, its strategic position, current situation, developing trend and etc. He thought that with high development of science and technology nowadays, we must attach more importance to talents in different fields. Where there are human resources, there are talents with innovation and creativity, and only if a country has top talents can he has the power to makes it possible to realize independent innovation; without human resources, we lose both human sources and talents, and then we lose everything. Human resources are the most decisive factor of productivity. The competition among countries is after all, Mr. Yang said, the competition for talents with top qualities. The same is true to mechanical manufacturing.
Mr. Yang’s wonderful lecture won thunderous applause from the students now and then. During phase of interaction, many students fall over each other to ask questions and Mr. Yang answered all the questions one by one at great length.
