 Mr. Wang Chao Leads a Delegation to Visit UoB in Britain to Carry forward the First Joint-Program

On May 19th, the delegation led by Wang Chao, Chairman of university council of HUAT began its two days’ formal visit to its cooperation partner University of Bolton (UoB), Britain. The two-day visit included campus and labs visit, meeting with vice president and discussion about details of cooperation program, course design, teacher exchange, teaching and research.

On the morning of 19th, guided by Mr. Chen Bei, director of Chinese program of UoB, the delegation visited the newly-built UoB in the center of the city, the health and medical center shared by UoB and the Town Hall, students reception center, students center, canteen etc so that they would have full understanding of the studying and living environment of the future students from HUAT.

In the afternoon, the delegation went to the College of Mechanical Engineering and visited Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering, RLR-racing car lab technically supported UoB, and etc. After the visit, both sides had a meeting in the conference room of Mechanical Engineering, discussing details about the joint-program, such as training plans and courses opened by two sides. Mr. Wang Baohua, dean of automotive engineering college gave an brief introduction of HUAT concerned with its general development, historical background, advantages and achievements in automotive engineering, close relationship with Dongfeng Motor Company and terrific achievements achieved by students in the national and international racing car competitions. Both sides agreed that on the basis of current foundation, they should expand cooperation to further field and promote teachers and students exchange so that the cooperation between two sides would be on a higher level. After the meeting, the delegation also attended the interview made by Mr. Kandadi, vice president of UoB and Mr. Shaw, director business college and oversea program. After the introduction of HUAT by Mr. Wang Chao, Mr. Kandadi said there were lots of common interests and feathers in teaching and research for the both universities. Besides accepting students from HUAT, further cooperation should also bring into account of sending students to HUAT from UoB, student’s interaction in design of vehicles and car racing so that win-win goals could be achieved.  


The next day, the delegation came to the language center, where Ms. Katherin, director of the center presented a vivid English class with her students as scheduled. The delegation members also participated in the language class, answering and asking questions as students. Ms. Katherin also answered questions about how to divide students into different groups according to their English levels, class preparation, evaluation of students’ work, and etc. She also mentioned language requirements and problems that students in the program might meet in the future, and expressed her hope that English teachers from HUAT could work together or be trained in the center so that they teach English in a better way.

The delegation also took a special trip to the students dormitories to get a general idea of its facilities and environment. Mr. Wang Chao asked some questions concerned with housing expense, management etc. And then they concluded their successful visit to university of Bolton with the library as their last stop.
