On the afternoon of August 25th, all the professors, deans of the schools and department leaders attended a meeting at which Mr. Hu Liqiang, director of carders section 5 of Hubei provincial Party Committee Organization Department announced that Cheng Hongbing was appointed as CUC (Chairman of University Council) and Mr. Wang Chao, the former CUC of HUAT no longer served at the post. 

Cheng Hongbing once served as vice dean of mechanical department of Wuhan Iron and Steel Institute, (now merged into Wuhan University of Science and Technology), director of students affairs office, director of Party Committee Organization Department of Wuhan Metallurgy University of science and Technology (now merged into Wuhan University of Science and Technology), CUC of Wuhan Vocational Institute of Shipbuilding technology and Wuhan Railway Vocational Institute. Before this appointment, he served as vice president of Hubei University.
