A celebration ceremony was held on 11st Dec. at Yifu Library to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Meng Shaonong, who was the first president of HUAT. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Zhu Yanfeng, chairman of the board of Dongfeng Motor Company, Mr. Li Shaozhu and Mr. Liu Weidong, vice chairmen of the board of DFM, Mr. Cheng Hongbing, CUC of HUAT, Mr. Zhong Yuning, President of HUAT, Ms. Li Yanjie, Mr. Meng Shaonong’ widow, and representatives from other units and companies. Mr. Zhu placed a wreath in front of Mr. Meng Shangnong statue and visited the picture exhibition about Chinese automobile industry and HUAT racing car team.
Meng Shaonong (1915-1988), a member of China Academy of Sciences (renamed as academician in1993), the first president of HUAT, one of the founders of Chinese automotive industry, he took important positions in the first automobile factory in Changchun, automobile factory in Shanxi and the second automobile factory in Shiyan.
At the ceremony, Mr. Zhu, on behalf of all the staff of Dongfeng Motor Company expressed deep memory for and great respect to Mr. Meng Shaonong. Zhu Yanfeng said: “we commemorate Mr. Meng Shaonong to love our motherland, bear firm loyalty to our party. We must also learn his spirits of working hard to start businesses; the spirits of exploring and doing practical work so that we can make our automobile industry stronger and excellent and contribute ourselves to realize the hundred-year Dongfeng Dream, the dream of a country with strong automobile industry, which will also add more to the realization of China Dream.
At the ceremony, Mr. Zhu announced that Dongfeng Motor Company would initiate 2 million yuan to set up “Meng Shangnong Scholarship.
