 Mr. Nicholas Chrimes From Cambridge University Is Employed as a Visiting Professor by HUAT

On the afternoon of November 4, a ceremony was held at the conference hall of Yufu Library at which Mr. Nicholas Chrimes, a professor of Cambridge University was awarded a certificate of a visiting professor of HUAT. After the ceremony, Mr. Nicholas delivered a lecture entitled “Understanding English through Cambridge University”.


 

Graduated from University of Bristol and INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau, France, Mr. Nicholas has been living at Cambridge for more than 20 years. As a Ph.D. and writer of Cambridge, Mr. Nicholas, known as “a man who knows Cambridge best, is not only well versed in the historical anecdotes of the town of Cambridge and Cambridge University, but also quite accomplished in art, architecture, gardening and sports.

 

Mr. Cheng Hongbing, CUC of HUAT attended the ceremony and issued a certificate of visiting professor to Mr. Nicolas. He expressed his warm welcome to professor Chrimes and hope that more prestigious professor and scholars like him would come to visit our university and give lectures, which would help HUAT to develop in the direction of opening and internationalization. He also asked the students to study hard to improve their humanistic quality and broaden their international horizon.     


 

Now as a member HUAT, Professor Chrimes said he was very grateful for the kind invitation of HUAT and he hoped the contact and academic exchange between HUAT and Cambridge University would be strengthened with his effort.  

 

After the ceremony, Professor Chrimes delivered a lecture about the historical anecdotes of Cambridge University, the transformation of English culture and education and the influence of Cambridge University on higher education of Britain and even the whole world. He also introduced the historical development of architecture of Cambridge University, historical contacts and exchange between Cambridge University and China. All those present had a general idea about the essence of British culture. Some participants raised questions about the culture and higher education of Britain so as to interact with Professor Chrimes actively.
