In order to learn about the difficulties encountered by students in the learning process and improve the quality of teaching, a forum was held at the school of automotive engineering with participation of students and teachers in the Sino-British program. Vice president Luo Yongge, Ms. Zhang Hongxia, director of teaching department, Mr. Wang Baohua, dean of school of automotive engineering and other members related to the program attended the forum.
When asked what questions the students have in their study, some of them wanted to know the advantages of the joint program over an ordinary program. Still, some students said they couldn’t follow the foreign teachers’ classes because of their poor English and all English textbooks, and wonder how they could improve their study efficiency. All the teachers presented at forum listened to the students’ feedback carefully and answered all the questions one by one. Wang Baohua said the joint program provided students in the program with easy channel to study abroad. More important, with the help of the program, HUAT could import advanced educational resources such as ideas, all English textbooks and excellent foreign teachers, which in turn would add competitive advantages over the students in ordinary program for their future career. As for some of the difficulties encountered in the learning process, Wang said the school would try to solve them by means of adjusting and changing teaching methods, such as dividing chapters into smaller parts so as to make learning easier.
Luo Yongge points out that internationalization and innovation is the main trend of current education development. HUAT attaches great importance to the joint program, which is also the need of HUAT for future development. Internationalization and innovation are the necessary qualities that future talents must possess. As for the difficulties the students met in the their study, Luo said that the school would further research on curriculum setting and arrangement and explore and try some more scientific and reasonable teaching modes and methods so as to solve the problems that led to the difficulties. He also shared his experience of learning German with the students so as to encourage them to develop good self-learning habits.
