February 28 saw the commencement of an exhibition of elegant calligraphy on handmade paper from processed tree skins at the gallery of Yifu Library which was initiated by Mr. Wang Zhanbei, professor of HUAT.
Mr. Ye Jicheng, a calligraphic master made an opening speech at the commencement of the exhibition on behalf of all the guests attending the ceremony. Mr. Yang Lizhi, vice chairman of University Council of HUAT also congratulated professor Wang on his effort and spirit to preserve and protect traditional culture. Professor Wang introduced his initial intention and preparation for such an exhibition as well as contents of the exhibition.
During the exhibition, professor Wang also introduced the technology, historical development of the paper from processed tree skins as well as the material of which the calligraphic was made. It is said that in order to achieve the effect of display, professor Wang invited more than 60 calligraphic artists from 12 provinces to pain and leave their writings on more than 150 pieces of handmade paper from processed tree skins
After the exhibition, professor Wang invited the participating artists to have discussion about the art and use of the paper and many artists expressed their appreciation of them. They think the cultural and economic value of handmade paper from processed tree skins can be further studied, improved and developed so that the traditional cultural treasures will gain a new life.
Presented at the opening ceremony were more than 30 local artists, TV and radio stations, newspapers journalists as well as more than 200 students.
