 The 10th iCAN Finals End with a First Prize Awarded to a Team from HUAT

The 10th International Contest of Application in Nano-Micro Technology (iCAN) was held from October 11 to 13 in Beijing. HUAT had 3 teams to the contest with one of which won a first prize and two third prizes.

 

The first prize went to the project called “Distributed Multi-path Active Balancing System for Lithium-ion Battery” and accomplished by Mr. Zhang Rui, Chen Chao, Qi Chuang and Yu Liyang with Professor Jiang Huanxue and Jia Rong as their tutors. During the presentation, the project caught the eyes of more than 70 judges comprised of entrepreneurs and investors from all parts of the country and some of them offered help to promote technical presentation. In addition, another two projects accomplished by Mr. Liu Haihua and Zhao Gang won the third prize as well. In the past few years, based on the Research Institute of Vehicle Information Control and Network Technology and Smart Driving Control Lab of Hubei Province, students’ projects closely connected with teachers’ research have gained significant approval from judges and experts in different contests.


 

It is reported that after preliminary contests and quarter-finals with participation of more than 3,000 teams consisted of students from more than 200 universities, 518 teams entered the 2016 iCAN finals. Project presentations covered a wide range of areas of smart technology such as service and city facilities, entertainments and sports, living and house decoration, monitoring and management, medicine and health, traffic and energy, gardening etc. Fairs during the contest were also organized, which serve a communication platform for members of project teams and entrepreneurs to have face-to-face negotiations about socialization and marketization of the innovations and innovators as well.


 

iCAN Contest and Sub-contest in China (previous called MEMS Sensor Application Contest) is the first international youth innovation contest in nano-micro fields in China and serves as a platform between universities and enterprises to stimulate the innovations of college students searching for new applications of nano-micro technology. It is co-organized by teaching method innovation guidance committee of China Ministry of Education and Chinese International MEMS Society(CINS) and hosted by Tsinghua University. Founded in China in 2007, iCAN in China has become an international even since 2010 and attracted thousands of students from different countries and regions.
