From August 17 to 20, the Eleventh National University "NZP Cup" smart car competition-Grand Finals was held in Central South University. After rounds of selection, 246 teams are qualified to take part in the grand finals. Two teams from HUAT won a first prize and a second prize respectively.
It is reported that the 246 teams in the grand finals are selected from 2012 candidates from such 8 branch competition areas as Northeast of China, North China, Southern China, the East, West, Anhui, Shandong and Zhejiang province and only the top 15 winners from 540 candidates of camera group can win the first prize. So it is hard work and also a great honor for both of the HUAT teams.
The National smart car contest is a kind of interdisciplinary contest sponsored by the Ministry of Education for the national college students to take part in exploratory engineering practice. The candidate teams are required to make a small smart car capable of identifying the path itself and running on a specified path. The design of such a car covers knowledge of many disciplines such as pattern recognition, sensing technology, control technology, mechanical transmission etc, which greatly enhances students' knowledge integration and practical ability.
