 Undergraduate Programs Evaluation Ends with Feedback from the Expert Panel

On December 9th, the panel from the Ministry of Education had a meeting at the lecturing hall of Yufu Library, delivering evaluation feedback about undergraduate programs of HUAT.


 

At the meeting, Mr. Jiang Gefu, director of the panel made a summary about the evaluation, pointing out that HUAT had clear thought about and paid significant attention to the evaluation. The preparatory work HUAT had done was specified and meticulous with the twenty-word policy as guidance. HUAT had precise orientation and clear development goal. Talents cultivation patterns was suitable for local economic development and industry. HUAT persisted in training students in all aspects and had increasingly deepened the reform of talents training models and education and teaching. With solid relationship with Dongfeng Company, HUAT was going on the right path of cooperation with enterprises and companies, gradually highlighting its characteristics in integration of production, learning and research. Making use of Wudang culture research and communication center as a platform, HUAT was to boosting Shiyan cultural landscape development, economic and social development. It had also made efforts to establish a strategic partnership with local governments and enterprises in wide full range. He sincerely hoped that HUAT would seize this opportunity to upgrade the school and stick to the direction of regional and industry so as to make greater contributions to the China automotive industry and the world.


 

Mr. Li Xiangnong, deputy head of the expert panel, together with other members of the panel talked objectively about the problems and shortcomings existing in undergraduate teaching programs during the evaluation period and offered positive and reasonable suggestions about how to strengthen and improve undergraduate education and teaching.

 

On behalf of Hubei Provincial Educational Department, Mr. Deng Li, director of higher education department also made a speech. He first expressed his thanks for their hardworking spirit, strict working attitude and the efficient work the expert panel had done during the evaluation. He said that Hubei Provincial Educational Department would go on caring and support HUAT in every field and hoped that HUAT would take the evaluation as chance to set teaching as a core of daily routines, form its own characteristics and stick to road of developing characteristically.

 

Mr. Cheng Hongbing, party secretary of HUAT made a speech and expressed his sincere and heart-felt thanks for the hard work and selfless help of the expert panel. He also expressed his thanks for the long term care and support from the provincial educational department. He said the positive comments from the panel was inspiration to HUAT and their suggestions were practical and useful, which would benefit HUAT in its future work and development.  


 

Cheng Hongbing said that this was the first year in which “the fifteenth five-year plan” was carried out. HUAT would make formulate rectification plan according to what is proposed by expert panel and spare no effort to improve undergraduate teaching qualities. He said HUAT would do the following five things: The first is to further change educational thought and idea. The second is to further strengthen the construction of teachers. The third is to further strengthen the construction of specialty connotation. The fourth is further strengthen execution of teaching quality assurance system. The last is to strive for more education funds and increase two service abilities.


 

During the period of 4 days’on-site inspection, the evaluation expert panel visited the history museum and places of teaching students' innovation bases, attended 29 lectures, examined 2,380 test papers of 23 courses and 1,120 graduation essays of 23 programs, interviewed 206 persons from 9 teaching units, 21 administration departments, among which 56 times of long- time interview with school leaders, summoned 9 negotiation meeting with 64 participants in total. Eight of them went to 6 off campus practice bases and employing units of graduates. They also had 26 times of inspecting school canteens, students’ dormitories, sports ground, libraries, a gym and thousands of teaching documents and supporting statistic data.
