On the afternoon of May 10th, Mr. Yu Zhijun, professor and a famous martial artist of Beijing Information and Technology University, visited HUAT and gave a lecture entitled Traditional Chinese Martial Arts. His lecture covers three parts from the relation between China martial arts and internal school boxing(also called shadowboxing), the origin of internal school boxing theory to the present situation of China martial arts. When elaborating the influence of ancient Book of Change and Lao Tze on traditional China martial arts, the origin of theory and practice of martial arts, he believes that China martial arts is a part of Chinese splendid culture with more than five thousand years and therefore, a valuable heritage left by our ancestors. He also explained the difference between traditional China martial arts and the so-called China martial art schools that existed among folks by demonstration and interactive exchange with audience who had practiced martial arts before.
Professor Yu was born in 1931 and started to study and practice martial arts when he was young. He is also a famous martial artist and an expert at history of China martial arts. His book The history of Traditional China Martial Arts is the only one book of the kind, which has great influence in the field of China martial arts. He also discovered developed some almost lost martial arts such as Huanhou Eight Spears, Jiuzhuan Mandarin Ducks’ Legs, Huanzhan Fists etc.
