On March 9th, a meeting was held at the conference room of the administration building, announcing the commencement of preparation for engineering education programs accreditation. The meeting was presided by Ms. Zhang Hongxia, director of teaching department. President Zhong Yuning, deans and directors from colleges and schools attended the meeting.
Taking it as a new task, Ms. Zhang Hongxia made a brief introduction to accreditation background, preparation work, application process and final accreditation. Mr. Tao Liang, vice director of teaching department also talked about programs to be accredited in 2017 and explained the time schedule around the preparation work etc.
President Zhong Yuning stressed that the program accreditation is a part of the "five in one" teaching evaluation system set by the Ministry of Education of China, which consists of self-evaluation, evaluation from other universities, regular check on normal data, international evaluation and program accreditation. It is both a main aspect of inflection after undergraduate teaching quality evaluation and an important measure to further deepen the reform of engineering education to improve the construction of program level. He required that both schools and program directors should fully understand the urgency and necessity of the accreditation, study and and fully understand state policies about accreditation, accreditation standards and key points, and encourage all the staff to get actively involved in accreditation so as to improve program quality and talents training quality.
It is reported that on behalf of China, Chinese Association had officially become a member of Washington Accord on June 2nd2016. It is an international engineering alliance that was founded by engineering groups from six countries like USA, Britain, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. It aims to guarantee engineering education quality through accreditation and lay a foundation for international recognition of qualification of engineers.
