On December 7th, the annual conference and symposium-2017 of Hubei provincial universities alliance of applied science (HBUASS) was held at HUAT. More than 100 participants from 26 universities and colleges within the province, leaders of related departments of Hubei provincial government and local government, representatives from enterprises and companies attended the conference.
The conference was presided by Mr. Zhong Yuning, president of HUAT. Many participants and honored guests from enterprises made reports or speeches at the conference, stating their view points ideas about the training of applied talents.
As host of the conference, Mr. Cheng Hongbing, party secretary of HUAT delivered a passionate speech. He sincerely expects that the participating universities can enhance communication through in-depth exchanges, sincere cooperation and collaborative education with the help of communication platform of Hubei Applied University Alliance. At the same time, he also hopes that the conference can effectively promote the communication and cooperation between universities, and provide an opportunity for further exploration of the teaching reform, personnel training, curriculum construction, teaching and research, innovation education system so as to contribute more to the cause of higher education and economic and social development of Hubei Province.
Ms. Tan Zhen, president of Huanghuai College, made a theme report entitled “the transformation and development of newly-built local universities and colleges and cultivation of applied talents”, in which she talked about present situation of newly-built undergraduate colleges, the measures taken by the state to advance the development of newly-built local universities and colleges, and achievements made in the past. She says there is no “perfect tense” in the transformation, reforming is always on the way.
Ms. Liu Yunmei, vice mayor of Shiyan City, points out in her speech that in the process of the development of Shiyan automobile industry, HUAT has always been playing an active role in the development of automotive industry. Since its foundation, HUAT has been paying significant attention to the cultivation of students’ practical abilities and innovation abilities. With comparative advantages in local areas, HUAT has built a strong platform with involvement of enterprises and communities in Shiyan, offering more opportunities for students to get involved in social and work practice. For the past 40 years, HUAT has offered a large amount of engineering talents for Chinese automotive industry and prosperity of local economy. She also expressed her hope that more universities and colleges outside Shiyan would get actively involved in the development of strategy of the second rise of Shiyan city and more graduates from other universities and colleges were welcomed to Shiyan for innovation and entrepreneurship.
It is said that the alliance is a non-profit organization that was founded last December under the guidance of Hubei Provincial Educational Department with universities and colleges of applied science as its main body, and involvement of interested research institutes and enterprises, aiming at promoting the quality of talent cultivation and offering service for the member universities during the period of transformation period so as to advance the integration of production, leaning and research, the cooperation between enterprises and universities and construction of teachers’ team and cooperation and exchange of innovation and entrepreneurship.
