In 2016, Since China officially became a member of the Washington Accord, an international agreement on mutual recognition of undergraduate degree programs, HUAT has showed great attention to the accreditation of automotive engineering program and has been preparing for it. After nearly two years of preparation, experts of CEEAA (China Engineering Education Accreditation Association) came to HUAT on June 4th and began their work on the accreditation. In the morning, President Zhong Yuning, vice president Luo Yongge, Zhang Youbin and directors of related departments, representatives of teachers held a meeting with the experts at the conference room of Yufu Library.
On behalf of the school, Mr. Zhong Yuning, president of HUAT, made a welcome speech and briefly introduced the history and development of the school. He said that through the preparation work on the accreditation, the whole school further set up the educational concept of centering around students, strengthened the profound understanding of qualified graduates standards and continuous improvement on the system based on output. He said that it was the time for HUAT to have one of its engineering programs accredited by CEEAA with international standards, which would play a very important role in further promoting the qualities of talents training and the competitiveness of programs and the school itself. He also hopes that under the guidance the experts’ accurate analysis of the program, the program as well as other programs would continue to improve its professional level and quality, which would in return speed up the whole development of HUAT.
Then, Ms. Zhao Lili, head of the expert group, briefly introduced the members of the expert group, the purpose and significance of the accreditation of engineering education, the contents, methods and the basis for program accreditation etc. She said that engineering education accreditation is a process of learning and upgrading for schools and experts. The accreditation work would carried out by verifying the self evaluation report of the school’s automotive engineering program and checking relevant data and so on, to determine whether the automotive engineering program meets the general standard of program accreditation and the general standard of mechanical specialty.
Professor Feng Ying, director of automotive engineering program, briefing the outline of the development of the school of automotive engineering and the program, made a report on automotive engineering program to the experts by carrying out the OBE concept, deepening the reform of education and teaching, establishing a continuous improvement on mechanism and improving the quality of talent training. School leaders, directors of the related program and departments answered questions from the experts.
After the meeting, the expert group, accompanied by school leaders and related departments, examined the library, the FSAE team, the automobile power transmission and electronic control key laboratory of Hubei Province, the automobile theory and experiment base, the automobile construction laboratory and the engine factory of Dongfeng commercial truck company.
