With the development of HUAT, more and more foreign universities have established cooperation relationship with HUAT in the past few years. In order to let more students know about these cooperation programs and offer them more chances for further study , the international office delivered two lectures on international cooperation in college of electronic engineering and information and college of science and technology. About 200 hundred students attended the lectures. In the lectures, Mr. Huang, senior international program coordinator of the office introduced some popular joint programs with U.S.A, Germany, Britain and France.

In order to let the students know the details of studying abroad, like how to prepare for the language test, how to apply for a foreign university and what it is like to study abroad, three students coming back from Wayne State University were also invited to talk about their impression and experience before and after studying at WSU.

Mr. Wang Luyu, a junior student from college of science and technology, who is now studying at WSU said that he was once lost himself during the previous 3 years and spent much playing games on line. The joint program with WSU opened another window for him and from the moment he applied for the joint program, he was determined to change himself and studied harder than ever before, and finally he passed the language test and was admitted by WSU. But he also told his fellow students that studying abroad doesn’t mean an easy job, instead, it demands more. So he asked the students who are going to prepare for studying abroad to learn to be hard-working, persistent and confident. He concluded his talk with the old saying “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

Another two students from WSU also shared their experience studying language and academic courses and life at WSU. Mr. Xiao Bohan, a junior student from the school of automotive engineering said that communication is very important when studying at abroad. He gave an example about his successful change of his major from mechanical engineering to electronic engineering, which is almost impossible at home university when he was not good at communication. But he made it by writing more than 100 emails to communicating with his professors. Now he is on the formal track pursuing his master’s degree confidently. Ms, Xu Shengnan, a female also from the school of automotive engineering shared her experience in studying at the language school of WSU. She said passing the language test doesn’t mean you are qualified or good enough for all the academic courses taught in English and life on the campus while the language school can make up for something that you were not aware of but necessary for academic study and campus life.

The directors of both schools also attended the lectures. They said the lectures were not only quite informative but also encouraging and inspiring. Whether you plan to study abroad or not, learning to be self-disciplined, persistent and confident is one of the most important thing during one’s college life, which will make a difference in one’s future career.
