Upon more than 30 years of cooperation between HUAT and Ulm University of Applied Sciences, Germany (HS Ulm), Mr. Volker Reuter, President and his colleagues, Mr. Robert Watty, Dean of the College of mechanical and automotive engineering, and Ms. Stephanie Wagner, director of international office payed an exchange visit to HUAT from May 10th to 13th.
On the afternoon of 11th, President Zhong Yuning, vice president Luo Yongge and Zhang Youbing had a meeting with the guests in the conference room on the third floor of the executive building. At the beginning of the meeting, President Zhong gave a brief introduction about recent development of HUAT and played a video about the life and work of the HUAT students who graduated from HS Ulm and now are working or studying in Germany or in China. All of them sent their sincere thanks and best wishes to the two universities. After the video, both sides recalled the experience and exchanged opinions about exchange programs, research achievements and cooperation during the past 30 years. Especially, both sides were satisfied with and gave affirmative comments on the effort on and results in the double degree program started 10 years ago. President Reuter also introduced the situation and development strategy of HS Ulm. The solid foundation of cooperation between the two sides lies in the fact that both universities focus on automotive industry chain in teaching, practice and research. At the end of the meeting, on behalf of each side, Mr. Zhong and Mr. Reuter signed a renewed agreement. Directors of related department also attended the meeting.
During their visit, the guests also visited college of automotive engineers, Yifu library and some laboratories. On 12th, professor Watty had an interview with the students who are going to study at HS Ulm this fall.
The double degree program between the two universities started in 2008 and over the past ten years, 54 students have been sent to HS Ulm, among whom, 33 students have completed their studies in Germany and received a degree from the two universities. Of the 33 students, 19 have been in or are studying their master degree in Germany, 8 are working or used to work in Germany after graduation. The students who returned are currently working in such joint ventures in China as Audi China, Beijing Mercedes, Shanghai Volkswagen, Nanjing HeLa and Dongfeng Getrag.
