From August 20 to 23, the 6th Hubei Provincial Young Teachers' Teaching Competition was held in Central China Normal University. Ms. Zhang Ju, a young teacher from the School of Automobile Engineering won the second prize in the engineering group and Ms. Huang Xi, a young teacher from Foreign Language College won the third prize in the foreign language group.
The competition attracted 115 competitors from 43 colleges and universities in the province. When asked how they felt about the competition, the two young women teachers said they went to learn and make friends instead of beating other competitors. “Every competitor has his or her own teaching style and strong points,” they said, “We are happy that we learned a lot from other competitors and, what is more, we’ve made a lot of friends. We believe the competition serves as a bridge to get together the young teachers in the province and discuss and exchange teaching methods.”
It is reported that the teaching competition is held every two years. With concept of “making every single class informative and interesting as the theme, the competition is divided into three parts: teaching design, class organization and question and answer. The participants cast lots in the 20 teaching units which cover 80% of information contained in the general syllabus. Then the candidates are required to complete teaching design and class organization design with PPT within 3 hours. After 3 hours’ preparation, each candidate has 20 minutes’ real class presentation and 5 minutes’ question and answer. The candidates are scored finally by the judges according their performance in different stages.
