No steering wheel, no throttle and no brakes, just a START button—an intelligent Sharing-VAN mobile transportation platform launched by Dongfeng Automobile Company attracted thousands of spectators at the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition recently. This is the first L4 auto-pilot vehicle that integrates 5G and remote driving technology in China, which can realize the convenient and instant transportation through real-time interconnection and automatic docking function.
One of the three core systems of the vehicle—HMI & UI system—was developed by the team under the leadership of Professor Zhou Haiying from Institute of Automotive Engineers of HUAT. Many graduate and undergraduate students from HUAT have participated in the R&D projects of Dongfeng Automobile Company, which is a perfect example of the transformation and application of scientific research achievements. According to Prof.Zhou, HUAT has already become one of the few universities in China that can conduct independent R&D project of auto-pilot racing cars.
