On the afternoon of December 3rd, foreign teacher Lehana Simon was invited by the International Cooperation and Exchange Office to give a lecture on Antiguan Culture in classroom 1305, Center of the Faculty Development. A total of more than 80 sophomore students from English majors and translation majors, as well as English teachers and international students participated in the salon.

Lehana started the interesting cultural journey with wonderful music of exotic characteristics. She gave us a description of the Antiguan geographic location, history, festivals, costumes, music, food, and tourism attractions, etc. Passionate, energetic and humorous, she made the audience enjoy her lecture with laughter.

After the lecture, teachers and students actively asked questions  covering all aspects, such as Antiguans' hairstyle, religion, whether everyone can swim in such an island country with 365 beaches, etc. When asked “What Chinese cultural phenomenon impresses her most?”, she said that it is "Have you eaten yet?", as she always thought that others would invite her to have dinner together, but later she realized that this is just a Chinese characteristic way of greeting.

This activity not only gave us a preliminary understanding of a new culture, but also provide us an opportunity to look back at our own culture. At the same time, it also played an important role in creating a language learning atmosphere and promoting communication between Chinese students and international students.
