A total of 22 international students and 1 international faculty member chose to stay on campus ever since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of HUAT has been dedicated to the front and fighting against the pandemic with the support from school leaders and relevant departments to ensure the physical and mental health for the international students and faculty.
At the very beginning of the outbreak, we immediately translated and pushed official regulations and positive energy news, videos and basic knowledge of epidemic prevention through the students group to avoid the spread of rumors and panic. A letter of Consolation was sent to them in the name of the school authority, and daily temperature reporting and recording system had been set up meanwhile.
During this special period, we spare no efforts to actively guide international students to purchase fresh food online with APPs to effectively reduce the risk of going out. Many departments of HUAT had shown their concern for the international students and faculty with practical actions. The School Campus Construction and Management Department actively provided free foods and other materials for international students and faculty and solved their actual problems. The School Hospital trained international students to use mobile ultraviolet disinfection vehicles for indoor air disinfection. The Security Department protected and preserved the personal safety for international students. The Foreign Languages Department assisted reporting the health status of international students to local community staff.
School leaders are also very concerned about the physical and mental health of international students and faculty. President Zhong Yuning, accompanied by Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office Ma Xun, paid a visit to them and actively helped them solve their problems, such as ensuring emergency food and anti-epidemic materials.
During the epidemic, many countries have evacuated their students in Shiyan. Up to now, there has been no case of evacuation and no case of suspected or confirmed cases among international students and faculty member in HUAT. The international students and faculty are deeply touched by the care from school authority, who are now busy with the on-line learning and teaching.
