The First Confucius Institute of HUAT Inaugurated at Nkrumah University of Technology in Ghana

On the morning of December 19, 2023 in Ghana, the Confucius Institute jointly built by HUAT and Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana was unveiled in the auditorium of the school. More than 400 people attended the unveiling ceremony, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Lu Kun delivered a keynote video speech. In the speech, he pointed out that the Confucius Institute at Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is the third Confucius Institute officially established in Ghana and is the latest fruit of the traditional friendship between China and Ghana. Zhao Lingshan, Secretary-General of the China International Foundation for Chinese Language Education, sent a congratulatory letter, saying that the foundation will continue to support the Confucius Institute at Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in its steady and long-term development.


Zhang Wenxve, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, delivered a speech thanking people from all walks of life for their strong support in the establishment of the Confucius Institute. He hopes that on the basis of the principles of "mutual respect, friendly consultation, equality and mutual benefit", the university and Nkruma University of Science and Technology will work together to create a distinctive and advantageous Confucius Institute to promote the development of the automotive industry in Ghana, and promote economic and cultural exchanges between China and Ghana. He also called on Ghanaian students to continue their studies in schools and become ambassadors to maintain the friendship between China and Ghana.


Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, Governor of Ashanti Province, Ghana, Ms. Rita Akosuya Dixon, President of Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and Mr. Tang Hong, President of the Association of Overseas Chinese Societies of Ghana, delivered speeches congratulating the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and wished that it to continue to thrive with the support of various sectors and the joint efforts of Hubei University of Automotive Industry and Nkruma University of Science and Technology. It will make greater contribution to the cooperation and exchanges between China and Ghana.


Subsequently, the leaders of the two universities and government officials jointly unveiled the plaque of the Confucius Institute at Nkruma University of Science and Technology, which marked the official establishment of the Confucius Institute. Zhang Wenwen and Rita Acosua Dixon jointly signed the Implementation Agreement on Cooperation in Building the Confucius Institute at Nkruma University of Science and Technology, witnessed by government officials and leaders of the two universities.

The unveiling ceremony was strongly supported by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, the Confucius Institute of Cape Coast University and the Chinese International School. There are many excellent works being rehearsed for the unveiling ceremony, such as "Lion Youth", "Dance Rhyme of China", recitation of the Three Character Classic, "Me and My Motherland" choir, and Hanfu show.

It is reported that the school received approval from the China International Chinese Education Foundation in March 2023 and was awarded the Confucius Institute plaque in September of the same year. The establishment of the Confucius Institute will certainly provide a better platform for international Chinese language promotion, scientific research, industry-university-research cooperation and inter-university exchanges.

There are many people attended the opening ceremony, including Mr. Li Yaohong, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Mr. Li Guoqiang, general manager of the Ghana Branch of Zhongxiang Overseas Construction and Development Co., LTD., and Mr. Francis Opaku, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Ghana in China. Chinese chambers of commerce, Chinese enterprises and major media in Ghana participated in the event, including the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, Ghana Chamber of Commerce of Chinese-Funded Enterprises, China-Canada Chamber of Commerce, Hebei Chamber of Commerce, Shandong Chamber of Commerce, Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce, Guangxi Chamber of Commerce, Zhongda Heavy Truck Ghana Group Co., LTD., Xinan Sunshine Ghana Agricultural Materials Co., LTD., Power China Construction, Paradise Lake Co., LTD., Xinhua News Agency, Chinese News, Chinese TV Station and many local Ghanaian media.
