As Dragon Boat Festival comes, School of International Education held the Dragon Boat Festival traditional culture micro-salon on June 2nd . More than 40 participants including Chinese and international faculty and students from many colleges joined this activity.

This activity is divided into four parts: festival introduction, tasting of rice dumplings, knowledge contest and fans DIY. The preliminary exploration of the festival not only strengthened teachers and students' understanding of the Dragon Boat Festival history and cultural identity, but also paved the way for the knowledge competition. The fragrance of grains and red dates filled the whole classroom, lingering between the lips and teeth, creating a strong festive atmosphere. What pushed this activity to its climax was the knowledge contest. Teachers and students actively participated and raised their hands to answer the questions. The activity scene was very hot. The most surprising part for the students was the DIY fan, a traditional handicraft from the Han Dynasty, symbolizing reunion, happiness and good luck. The teachers and students were very patient, and carefully sketched the fan with each stroke, as if they were wandering in the long river of Chinese traditional culture and history. Finally, the activity ended successfully with the laughter of teachers and students.

Through this colorful activity, faculty and students have enhanced their understanding of traditional Chinese culture, and at the same time, they can feel the strong cultural atmosphere reflected in traditional national festivals. HUAT will continue to start from traditional festival education and make full use of traditional festivals to educate all students on traditional culture, so that our traditional culture can be carried forward!

The Dragon Boat Festival is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar every year. It is a traditional cultural festival popular in China and other countries in the cultural circle of Chinese characters. There are customs of eating rice dumplings, racing dragon boats, mugwort, and drinking realgar wine. The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the national statutory holidays and was included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2009.
