 A Visit From College of Engineering, Wayne State University, USA

On March 14th, Professor & Dr. Farshad Fotouhi and K.Y. Somon Ng, the dean and associate dean of college of engineering, Wayne State University (WSU) was invited to visit HUAT.

 

The two professors visited college of automotive engineering firstly. During the visit, professor and Dr. Wang Baohua, the dean of the college gave an introduction about general situation of the college and led them to visit automobile performance testing laboratory, automobile structure laboratory, automobile digital application center, new energy power train dynamics laboratory etc. In the FSC studio, Professor Fotouhi asked in detail about students’ preparations for FSC, and compared the WSU’s students’ project - Eco Car with that of HUAT. He hopes that the two racing team can communicate with each other and improve together.


When the two Professors came to college of electrical engineering and information, Professor and Dr. Zhou Haiying, the college dean, showed them around the automobile intelligent engineering and information processing laboratory and introduced to them the departments and some of the important achievements. Professor Fotouhi also introduced departments, programs, research fields, especially the achievements in the field of vehicle safety of his college. He also expressed his hope that both side could cooperate in the vehicle safety field since both had interests and achieved in it.


 

After the visit, vice president Luo Yongge held friendly talks with the two professors at a conference room of HUAT. Mr. Luo Yonge said, HUAT attached great importance to the cooperation with the WSU. Besides “3+2”program, he hoped other exchange programs such as short-term exchange of students, exchange of visiting scholars and etc. Such activities could in turn strengthen the cooperation and understanding of each other so that the cooperation could be carried out in a higher and larger level. For example, after finishing“3+2”, students of HUAT could also apply for Doctor program and students from WSU could also came to HUAT to experience Chinese culture and engineering education in China during their  short-term internship at HUAT, which in turn would benefit Chinese students in English learning. All the deans and some professors from colleges of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information, material science engineering and automotive engineering also attended the meeting.

 

On the afternoon of the same day, the two professors interviewed 8 students who are going to attend“3+2”program this fall.
