 Report Series(2)-Delegation from HUAT Visited Seven Universities of US and Canada

On November 14th, the delegation of HUAT, guided by vice -president LuoYongge, visited Kettering University of Detroit Flint. They were welcomed by Robert Simpson, (vice president, professor), Dr. Basem Alzahai, (director of International Cooperation Office and professor of Mechanical Engineering Department), Ms. Venertia Petteway (officer for Cooperative Education Affairs), Mr. Todd J. Steel (officer for Graduate Education Cooperative Affairs) as well as other principals from different departments. Professor Robert firstly gave a brief introduction of the history of the school, education programs, cooperative education and graduate programs. In the meeting, Mr. Luo Yong-ge introduced the educational features, scientific research and international exchange and cooperation of HUAT, etc. Kettering University showed great interest in the engineering background, cooperation with DFM Company, students’ research and innovation activities and the implementation of IADMP and IEEP, (full English teaching and short-term project for overseas students) of HUAT. When Professor Luo mentioned that F1 team from HUAT won the first prize in FSC this year and they would represent China to participate in next year's international competition in Germany, the representatives from Kettering University applauded to congratulate the achievements we have achieved. Mr. Luo invited Robert and his colleagues to visit our school at an appropriate time next year, they gladly accepted the invitation. The two sides agreed to conduct a detailed discussion and sign the cooperative agreement during their visit next year.

On the afternoon of November 15th, members of the delegation visited Wayne State University in Detroit city. They were welcomed by Professor KY Simon, dean of engineering department, Mr. Dinnis Atkinsosn, head of the Cooperative Education Affairs Office as well as other 6 persons. During the conference, members from both sides introduced their own basic situations. After the meeting, the delegation visited some laboratories of School of Engineering. The lab, led by Professor Simon, maintained its leading position in personnel training for the automobile industry. The lab owned the most advanced automotive research center especially in the field of optimizing gasoline and diesel engine, reduction of the cockpit’s noise, human safety biotechnology, new energy for automotives and personnel training. Later, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation and signed a memorandum of cooperation.

After the visit, members of the delegation went straight to University of Detroit Mercy. The visitation lasted for nearly 3 hours. Within the limited time, members of HUAT attended the meeting held by Shuvra (vice principal, leader of the academic research and foreign affairs) and Dr. Gary Kuleck (dean of School of Engineering and Science) in a small conference room.

The two sides exchanged views on exchanging undergraduates, sending students to study for master degree and accepting faculties as visiting scholars. Both parties agreed on the further cooperation and planed to complete the cooperation agreement at an appropriate time next year.
